Jesus before Pilate
1 Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole Council, immediately held a consultation ; and binding Jesus, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate. 2 Pilate questioned Him, "Are You the King of the Jews ?" And He answered him, "It is as you say." 3 The chief priests began to accuse Him harshly. 4 Then Pilate questioned Him again, saying, "Do You not answer ? See how many charges they bring against You!" 5 But Jesus made no further answer ; so Pilate was amazed. 6 Now at the feast he used to release for them any one prisoner whom they requested. 7 The man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection. 8 The crowd went up and began asking him to do as he had been accustomed to do for them. 9 Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews ?" 10 For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead. 12 Answering again, Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews ?" 13 They shouted back, "Crucify Him!" 14 But Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil has He done ?" But they shouted all the more, "Crucify Him!" 15 Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
Jesus Is Mocked
16 The soldiers took Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium ), and they called together the whole Roman cohort. 17 They dressed Him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on Him; 18 and they began to acclaim Him, "Hail, King of the Jews !" 19 They kept beating His head with a reed, and spitting on Him, and kneeling and bowing before Him. 20 After they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him.
The Queen of Sheba
1 Now when the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to test him with difficult questions. 2 So she came to Jerusalem with a very large retinue, with camels carrying spices and very much gold and precious stones. When she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart. 3 Solomon answered all her questions ; nothing was hidden from the king which he did not explain to her. 4 When the queen of Sheba perceived all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, 5 the food of his table, the seating of his servants, the attendance of his waiters and their attire, his cupbearers, and his stairway by which he went up to the house of the LORD, there was no more spirit in her. 6 Then she said to the king, "It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. 7 "Nevertheless I did not believe the reports, until I came and my eyes had seen it. And behold, the half was not told me. You exceed in wisdom and prosperity the report which I heard. 8 "How blessed are your men, how blessed are these your servants who stand before you continually and hear your wisdom. 9 "Blessed be the LORD your God who delighted in you to set you on the throne of Israel ; because the LORD loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness." 10 She gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and a very great amount of spices and precious stones. Never again did such abundance of spices come in as that which the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon. 11 Also the ships of Hiram, which brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir a very great number of almug trees and precious stones. 12 The king made of the almug trees supports for the house of the LORD and for the king's house, also lyres and harps for the singers ; such almug trees have not come in again nor have they been seen to this day. 13 King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire which she requested, besides what he gave her according to his royal bounty. Then she turned and went to her own land together with her servants.
Wealth, Splendor and Wisdom
14 Now the weight of gold which came in to Solomon in one year was 666 talents of gold, 15 besides that from the traders and the wares of the merchants and all the kings of the Arabs and the governors of the country. 16 King Solomon made 200 large shields of beaten gold, using 600 shekels of gold on each large shield. 17 He made 300 shields of beaten gold, using three minas of gold on each shield, and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon. 18 Moreover, the king made a great throne of ivory and overlaid it with refined gold. 19 There were six steps to the throne and a round top to the throne at its rear, and arms on each side of the seat , and two lions standing beside the arms. 20 Twelve lions were standing there on the six steps on the one side and on the other ; nothing like it was made for any other kingdom. 21 All King Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None was of silver ; it was not considered valuable in the days of Solomon. 22 For the king had at sea the ships of Tarshish with the ships of Hiram ; once every three years the ships of Tarshish came bringing gold and silver, ivory and apes and peacocks. 23 So King Solomon became greater than all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom. 24 All the earth was seeking the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which God had put in his heart. 25 They brought every man his gift, articles of silver and gold, garments, weapons, spices, horses, and mules, so much year by year. 26 Now Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen ; and he had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen, and he stationed them in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem. 27 The king made silver as common as stones in Jerusalem, and he made cedars as plentiful as sycamore trees that are in the lowland. 28 Also Solomon's import of horses was from Egypt and Kue, and the king's merchants procured them from Kue for a price. 29 A chariot was imported from Egypt for 600 shekels of silver, and a horse for 150 ; and by the same means they exported them to all the kings of the Hittites and to the kings of the Arameans. 12 Ephraim surrounds Me with lies And the house of Israel with deceit ; Judah is also unruly against God, Even against the Holy One who is faithful.
Ephraim Reminded
1 Ephraim feeds on wind, And pursues the east wind continually ; He multiplies lies and violence. Moreover, he makes a covenant with Assyria, And oil is carried to Egypt. 2 The LORD also has a dispute with Judah, And will punish Jacob according to his ways ; He will repay him according to his deeds. 3 In the womb he took his brother by the heel, And in his maturity he contended with God. 4 Yes, he wrestled with the angel and prevailed ; He wept and sought His favor. He found Him at Bethel And there He spoke with us, 5 Even the LORD, the God of hosts, The LORD is His name. 6 Therefore, return to your God, Observe kindness and justice, And wait for your God continually. 7 A merchant, in whose hands are false balances, He loves to oppress. 8 And Ephraim said, "Surely I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself; In all my labors they will find in me No iniquity, which would be sin." 9 But I have been the LORD your God since the land of Egypt ; I will make you live in tents again, As in the days of the appointed festival. 10 I have also spoken to the prophets, And I gave numerous visions, And through the prophets I gave parables. 11 Is there iniquity in Gilead ? Surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls, Yes, their altars are like the stone heaps Beside the furrows of the field. 12 Now Jacob fled to the land of Aram, And Israel worked for a wife, And for a wife he kept sheep. 13 But by a prophet the LORD brought Israel from Egypt, And by a prophet he was kept. 14 Ephraim has provoked to bitter anger ; So his Lord will leave his bloodguilt on him And bring back his reproach to him.

Daily Bible Reading from BibleStudyTools.com
July 8, 2012 - King James Version
1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away , and delivered him to Pilate.  2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it. 3 And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.  4 And Pilate asked him again, saying , Answerest thou nothing ? behold how many things they witness against thee.  5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled . 6 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired . 7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.  8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.  9 But Pilate answered them, saying , Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?  10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.  11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.  12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?  13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.  14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done ? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.  15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified . 16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.  17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, 18 And began to salute him, Hail , King of the Jews!  19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.  20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.  1 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions.  2 And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.  3 And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not any thing hid from the king, which he told her not. 4 And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon's wisdom, and the house that he had built , 5 And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers , and their apparel, and his cupbearers , and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her. 6 And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom.  7 Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came , and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard . 8 Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.  9 Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice.  10 And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store , and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.  11 And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees, and precious stones.  12 And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king's house, harps also and psalteries for singers : there came no such almug trees, nor were seen unto this day.  13 And king Solomon gave unto the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked , beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.  14 Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold,  15 Beside that he had of the merchantmen , and of the traffick of the spice merchants , and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.  16 And king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of gold went to one target.  17 And he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three pound of gold went to one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.  18 Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the best gold.  19 The throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was round behind: and there were stays on either side on the place of the seat , and two lions stood beside the stays.  20 And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps: there was not the like made in any kingdom.  21 And all king Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.  22 For the king had at sea a navy of Tharshish with the navy of Hiram: once in three years came the navy of Tharshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.  23 So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom.  24 And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.  25 And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and armour, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.  26 And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he bestowed in the cities for chariots, and with the king at Jerusalem.  27 And the king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycomore trees that are in the vale, for abundance.  28 And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king's merchants received the linen yarn at a price.  29 And a chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their means.  12 Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.  1 Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.  2 The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him. 3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:  4 Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed : he wept , and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us; 5 Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.  6 Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.  7 He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress . 8 And Ephraim said , Yet I am become rich , I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.  9 And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.  10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes , by the ministry of the prophets.  11 Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.  12 And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep. 13 And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved . 14 Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.

My vivid word

by Dale Cresap

My word declares itself to be living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. Do you perceive it this way? Does it leap off the page and come alive to you? It is an accurate account of events that have taken place, and also of events that are to come, yet it is presented to you as text on paper. I give you permission to do whatever it takes to make it more vivid to you. Do you hold the Bible in reverence and tremble at my word? If so I invite you to use your sanctified imagination to place yourself in the role of Bible characters and situations that you may live them yourself. Better yet, entreat me to do this for you and I will speak to you through my word.
