June 27, 2012 - King James Version
2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.  3 And his raiment became shining , exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.  5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.  6 For he wist not what to say ; for they were sore afraid.  7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying , This is my beloved Son: hear him.  8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about , they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.  9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen , till the Son of man were risen from the dead.  10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean . 11 And they asked him, saying , Why say the scribes that Elias must first come ? 12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought . 13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come , and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed , as it is written of him.  14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.  15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed , and running to him saluted him.  16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them ? 17 And one of the multitude answered and said , Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;  18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth , and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away : and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out ; and they could not.  19 He answereth him, and saith , O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.  20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming . 21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said , Of a child.  22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.  23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe , all things are possible to him that believeth . 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out , and said with tears, Lord, I believe ; help thou mine unbelief.  25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together , he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.  26 And the spirit cried , and rent him sore, and came out of him : and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said , He is dead . 27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up ; and he arose . 28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately , Why could not we cast him out ? 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.  30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it. 31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them , The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed , he shall rise the third day.  32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.  33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?  34 But they held their peace : for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.  35 And he sat down , and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.  36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms , he said unto them,  37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.  38 And John answered him, saying , Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.  39 But Jesus said , Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.  40 For he that is not against us is on our part.  41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.  42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.  43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off : it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:  44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched . 45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off : it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:  46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched . 47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out : it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:  48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched . 49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.  50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.  1 And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies , and out of the hand of Saul:  2 And he said , The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer ; 3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust : he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour ; thou savest me from violence.  4 I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised : so shall I be saved from mine enemies . 5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid ; 6 The sorrows of hell compassed me about ; the snares of death prevented me; 7 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.  8 Then the earth shook and trembled ; the foundations of heaven moved and shook , because he was wroth . 9 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured : coals were kindled by it. 10 He bowed the heavens also, and came down ; and darkness was under his feet.  11 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly : and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.  12 And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.  13 Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled . 14 The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.  15 And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them. 16 And the channels of the sea appeared , the foundations of the world were discovered , at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.  17 He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;  18 He delivered me from my strong enemy , and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me. 19 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.  20 He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me. 21 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. 22 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.  23 For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them. 24 I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.  25 Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight . 26 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful , and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright . 27 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure ; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury . 28 And the afflicted people thou wilt save : but thine eyes are upon the haughty , that thou mayest bring them down . 29 For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.  30 For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.  31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried : he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. 32 For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?  33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.  34 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet: and setteth me upon my high places.  35 He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.  36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great . 37 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip . 38 I have pursued mine enemies , and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them. 39 And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise : yea, they are fallen under my feet.  40 For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me. 41 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies , that I might destroy them that hate me. 42 They looked , but there was none to save ; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not. 43 Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad . 44 Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me. 45 Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear , they shall be obedient unto me. 46 Strangers shall fade away , and they shall be afraid out of their close places.  47 The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.  48 It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me, 49 And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies : thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.  50 Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.  51 He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.  2 Plead with your mother, plead : for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;  3 Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born , and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.  4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.  5 For their mother hath played the harlot : she that conceived them hath done shamefully : for she said , I will go after my lovers , that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.  6 Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.  7 And she shall follow after her lovers , but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say , I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.  8 For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.  9 Therefore will I return , and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.  10 And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers , and none shall deliver her out of mine hand.  11 I will also cause all her mirth to cease , her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.  12 And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, whereof she hath said , These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them. 13 And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers , and forgat me, saith the LORD.  14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. 15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.  16 And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali.  17 For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.  18 And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.  19 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.  20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD.  21 And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear , saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth;  22 And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel.  23 And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy ; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say , Thou art my God.

Daily Bible Reading from BibleStudyTools.com
June 27, 2012 - New American Standard
2 Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves . And He was transfigured before them; 3 and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. 4 Elijah appeared to them along with Moses ; and they were talking with Jesus. 5 Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here ; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah." 6 For he did not know what to answer ; for they became terrified. 7 Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!" 8 All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone. 9 As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead. 10 They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant. 11 They asked Him, saying, "Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first ?" 12 And He said to them, "Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt ? 13 "But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him."
All Things Possible
14 When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them. 15 Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him. 16 And He asked them, "What are you discussing with them?" 17 And one of the crowd answered Him, "Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute ; 18 and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and stiffens out. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it." 19 And He answered them and said, "O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!" 20 They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth. 21 And He asked his father, "How long has this been happening to him?" And he said, "From childhood. 22 "It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!" 23 And Jesus said to him, " 'If You can ?' All things are possible to him who believes." 24 Immediately the boy's father cried out and said, "I do believe ; help my unbelief." 25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again." 26 After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, "He is dead !" 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up. 28 When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately , "Why could we not drive it out?" 29 And He said to them, "This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer."
Death and Resurrection Foretold
30 From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it. 31 For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later." 32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him. 33 They came to Capernaum ; and when He was in the house, He began to question them, "What were you discussing on the way ?" 34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. 35 Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, "If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all." 36 Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, 37 "Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me."
Dire Warnings
38 John said to Him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us." 39 But Jesus said, "Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. 40 "For he who is not against us is for us. 41 "For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward. 42 "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea. 43 "If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off ; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire, 44 [where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.] 45 "If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off ; it is better for you to enter life lame, than, having your two feet, to be cast into hell, 46 [where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.] 47 "If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be cast into hell, 48 where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED. 49 "For everyone will be salted with fire. 50 "Salt is good ; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another."
David's Psalm of Deliverance
1 And David spoke the words of this song to the LORD in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. 2 He said, "The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer ; 3 My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge ; My savior, You save me from violence. 4 "I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies. 5 "For the waves of death encompassed me; The torrents of destruction overwhelmed me; 6 The cords of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. 7 "In my distress I called upon the LORD, Yes, I cried to my God ; And from His temple He heard my voice, And my cry for help came into His ears. 8 "Then the earth shook and quaked, The foundations of heaven were trembling And were shaken, because He was angry. 9 "Smoke went up out of His nostrils, Fire from His mouth devoured ; Coals were kindled by it. 10 "He bowed the heavens also, and came down With thick darkness under His feet. 11 "And He rode on a cherub and flew ; And He appeared on the wings of the wind. 12 "And He made darkness canopies around Him, A mass of waters, thick clouds of the sky. 13 "From the brightness before Him Coals of fire were kindled. 14 "The LORD thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered His voice. 15 "And He sent out arrows, and scattered them, Lightning, and routed them. 16 "Then the channels of the sea appeared, The foundations of the world were laid bare By the rebuke of the LORD, At the blast of the breath of His nostrils. 17 "He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. 18 "He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. 19 "They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the LORD was my support. 20 "He also brought me forth into a broad place ; He rescued me, because He delighted in me. 21 "The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness ; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. 22 "For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not acted wickedly against my God. 23 "For all His ordinances were before me, And as for His statutes, I did not depart from them. 24 "I was also blameless toward Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity. 25 "Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to my cleanness before His eyes. 26 "With the kind You show Yourself kind, With the blameless You show Yourself blameless ; 27 With the pure You show Yourself pure, And with the perverted You show Yourself astute. 28 "And You save an afflicted people ; But Your eyes are on the haughty whom You abase. 29 "For You are my lamp, O LORD ; And the LORD illumines my darkness. 30 "For by You I can run upon a troop ; By my God I can leap over a wall. 31 "As for God, His way is blameless ; The word of the LORD is tested ; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. 32 "For who is God, besides the LORD ? And who is a rock, besides our God ? 33 "God is my strong fortress ; And He sets the blameless in His way. 34 "He makes my feet like hinds' feet, And sets me on my high places. 35 "He trains my hands for battle, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 36 "You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your help makes me great. 37 "You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped. 38 "I pursued my enemies and destroyed them, And I did not turn back until they were consumed. 39 "And I have devoured them and shattered them, so that they did not rise ; And they fell under my feet. 40 "For You have girded me with strength for battle ; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me. 41 "You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, And I destroyed those who hated me. 42 "They looked, but there was none to save ; Even to the LORD, but He did not answer them. 43 "Then I pulverized them as the dust of the earth ; I crushed and stamped them as the mire of the streets. 44 "You have also delivered me from the contentions of my people ; You have kept me as head of the nations ; A people whom I have not known serve me. 45 "Foreigners pretend obedience to me; As soon as they hear , they obey me. 46 "Foreigners lose heart, And come trembling out of their fortresses. 47 "The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock ; And exalted be God, the rock of my salvation, 48 The God who executes vengeance for me, And brings down peoples under me, 49 Who also brings me out from my enemies ; You even lift me above those who rise up against me; You rescue me from the violent man. 50 "Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the nations, And I will sing praises to Your name. 51 "He is a tower of deliverance to His king, And shows lovingkindness to His anointed, To David and his descendants forever ." 2 "Contend with your mother, contend, For she is not my wife, and I am not her husband ; And let her put away her harlotry from her face And her adultery from between her breasts, 3 Or I will strip her naked And expose her as on the day when she was born. I will also make her like a wilderness, Make her like desert land And slay her with thirst. 4 "Also, I will have no compassion on her children, Because they are children of harlotry. 5 "For their mother has played the harlot ; She who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said, 'I will go after my lovers, Who give me my bread and my water, My wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.' 6 "Therefore, behold, I will hedge up her way with thorns, And I will build a wall against her so that she cannot find her paths. 7 "She will pursue her lovers, but she will not overtake them; And she will seek them, but will not find them. Then she will say, 'I will go back to my first husband, For it was better for me then than now !' 8 "For she does not know that it was I who gave her the grain, the new wine and the oil, And lavished on her silver and gold, Which they used for Baal. 9 "Therefore, I will take back My grain at harvest time And My new wine in its season. I will also take away My wool and My flax Given to cover her nakedness. 10 "And then I will uncover her lewdness In the sight of her lovers, And no one will rescue her out of My hand. 11 "I will also put an end to all her gaiety, Her feasts, her new moons, her sabbaths And all her festal assemblies. 12 "I will destroy her vines and fig trees, Of which she said, 'These are my wages Which my lovers have given me.' And I will make them a forest, And the beasts of the field will devour them. 13 "I will punish her for the days of the Baals When she used to offer sacrifices to them And adorn herself with her earrings and jewelry, And follow her lovers, so that she forgot Me," declares the LORD.
Restoration of Israel
14 "Therefore, behold, I will allure her, Bring her into the wilderness And speak kindly to her. 15 "Then I will give her her vineyards from there, And the valley of Achor as a door of hope. And she will sing there as in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt. 16 "It will come about in that day," declares the LORD, "That you will call Me Ishi And will no longer call Me Baali. 17 "For I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, So that they will be mentioned by their names no more. 18 "In that day I will also make a covenant for them With the beasts of the field, The birds of the sky And the creeping things of the ground. And I will abolish the bow, the sword and war from the land, And will make them lie down in safety. 19 "I will betroth you to Me forever ; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice, In lovingkindness and in compassion, 20 And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the LORD. 21 "It will come about in that day that I will respond," declares the LORD. "I will respond to the heavens, and they will respond to the earth, 22 And the earth will respond to the grain, to the new wine and to the oil, And they will respond to Jezreel. 23 "I will sow her for Myself in the land. I will also have compassion on her who had not obtained compassion, And I will say to those who were not My people, 'You are My people !' And they will say, 'You are my God !' "

Living Word

by Dale Cresap

My word affirms that my word is living and powerful. How can this be when you read it as ink that is dry on a printed page? Because I watch over my word to perform it. When you study the Bible I am involved in the process. If you come to it without preconceived ideas I will speak to you through it. Submit yourself to the word and be teachable and the word will come alive to you and live in you. My disciple testified that the word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, full of grace and truth. Now you have me living within you. I want you to be aware of this as you ask me to open my word to you.
